This wonderful yarn reflects the qualities of the sheep breed who made it! The Bluefaced Leicester (BFL) sheep breed originated in the early 1900’s in Northumberland County, England. One of the finest of the English longwool breeds, BFL fiber is soft and has a long staple length. It creates a soft yarn with wonderful stitch definition that is resistant to pilling. BFL sheep are most commonly white, with the occasional black (medium grayish brown), and have dark facial skin under white hair, producing a “blue faced” appearance. This BFL yarn is a blend of white and colored wool for an earthy, oatmeal brown shade with a warm glow.

This yarn pairs beautifully with the other JaggerSpun yarns as well (Gotland, Marl Ragg and Heather Fingering), giving you endless colorwork combinations!

About the yarn:

  • 100% undyed BFL wool, grown in the UK and spun in Maine
  • Sport/DK weight
  • 100 grams/370 yards
  • Gauge: 20 - 24 stitches/4 inches on US size 3-6 needles
  • Hand wash in cool water; lay flat to dry

About who makes it:

Spun in Maine by Jagger, a family-run fiber mill with a nearly 140-year spinning tradition, this yarn is created with wool from the UK that is brought to Jagger, where it is spun into high-quality yarn that supports New England's fiber-making history.

Maine has a long and proud tradition of woolen mills, but very few exist in operation today. We're so happy to partner with Jagger and bring this beautiful yarn - a piece of our home state, and the heritage of its fibershed - to our shop for you to enjoy.

Note: We make every effort to photograph yarn colors as accurately as possible, but individual screen resolutions may vary.
